7 Meals In 2 Hours (Or Less)
|
Mom (aka Joyce from www.PrepareAndSucceed.com) and I are really enjoying our Tuesday morning radio show on Blog Talk Radio. We haven't had a huge number of live listeners, but our archived shows are listened to by as many as 100 of you - and we're grateful for that! So far our most popular show has been the OAMC show where we gave you almost 30 recipes to try during a big marathon cooking session.
Join us Tuesday, June 3rd, as we take a gentler approach & talk about our new menu package: 7 Meals In 2 Hours (or less). These are meals you can assemble in just a couple of hours. And they're all delicious. And economical, too. Click on this link to listen to us live: www.blogtalkradio.com/freezersmarts on Tuesday at 10am PST (Noon Texas Time, or 1pm EST). We always have the chat room open. And if you have questions or want to talk to us live - you can call in or post your questions in the chat room. (And if the time doesn't work for you, the archived show is available almost immediately after we end either from the BTR site OR you can come right here to our home page & listen through the player here.)
If you listen & enjoy the show...please make us one of your friends...or a favorite...or rate the show. And most importantly, please help us pass the word along. All of our recipes, radio shows & advice are available to you absolutely free! So anything you can do to help us spread the word about all the resources available here is sure appreciated.
Hope to talk to you live on the radio!

OAMC Tuesday!
|
Have you been listening to our radio show on Blog Talk Radio? We air every Tuesday morning at 10am PST/1pm EST. We've covered a bunch of interesting topics, amd tomorrow's show is bound to be a popular one - we're going to talk about OAMC (Once A Month Cooking).
Of course I have recipes for you! And shopping lists! And hints, tips & tricks. We're using the recipes from the 5-Packs of recipes (the latest 5-Pack is "No Cook Recipes" and it's getting the finishing touches tonight so it will be ready for you in the morning).
You can listen to us live at www.blogtalkradio.com/freezersmarts (go there for the live call-in number, or the live chat, too!). Or within about 15 minutes of the show's end, you'll be able to listen to the archived show here on our home page, or you can use the BTR link above to listen.
We LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing from you. So if you listen live, and have questions, please call in or use the chat room. We would love to talk to you. And if you're listening to the archive & have questions, you can always use the "Contact Us" form to email me. I'll get back to you as fast as I can.
Love,
Joey

Phyllis
|
This has been a Murphy's Law week, so please excuse my absence from FreezerSmarts. We were traveling last week, but learned that my mother in law died while we were on our way back home. We also suffered an internet outage, which has only just returned. That caused me to miss the radio show which was scheduled for Tuesday. (I did have a backup plan, but we tried right up to air time & it just wouldn't work...) Funeral services for Phyllis (my MIL) will be held tomorrow, and I promise to get back to work on Monday. Thanks for your patience & understanding. Joey

Las Vegas, Here We Come!
|
The registration/sign-in glitches continue (insert photo of me pulling my hair out here! lol). So everything we've uploaded so far is still public, meaning you do not have to sign in to access any of it. I will continue working on that next week.
I am headed out of the office for the weekend. My 11 year old daughter is competing in the state Geographic Bee in Las Vegas, and we're headed there to cheer for her (& the other 85 kids from Nevada).
You can still use the "contact us" link to send any questions or comments, but I probably will not be able to get back to you until Monday. (We're staying with my sister-in-law, whose computer is with Geek Squad right now. So I will be limited to whatever work I can do from my trusty iPhone. lol)
I will be back to work Monday, and we'll have a new Blog Talk Radio show on Tuesday morning. We're going to be taking about Pantry Planning. Don't miss it! Go to www.blogtalkradio.com/freezersmarts on Tuesday from 10-10:30 a.m. PST (that's 1 p.m. EST). Have a great weekend!

National PB&J Day
|
Happy PB&J Day! I think peanut butter is DD6's favorite food in the whole world. We have 72-hour emergency kits for each member of our family (which we just updated & repacked Monday night)...and the main food item in her kit is a 1 lb jar of peanut butter. It would keep her alive 3 days, but she'd also be a happy camper doing it. (That also made her kit the lightest to carry & the cheapest to restock with fresh food!)
There is still a glitch in the sign-in process...which is why everything is still public. I am going to email my host (Claim The Web) for help with an administrative thing that I can't seem to do myself. And then there is an update available from the company who designed our template (Soholaunch). I am hoping that update might take care of this little hiccup for us.
We continue to have fun on the radio show (thanks, Joyce! Go to www.PrepareAndSucceed.com for more about her business). It's also fun to see the count of how many of you who have listened to the archives. Next week's show will be about Pantry Planning. Email me if you want help finding a recipe for some odd item in your pantry (or call into the show live! that would be fun!).
Have a great day!

April Fools!
|
Happy April Fools Day! I intended to put blue food coloring in the milk jug last night, but forgot. But I did wake up to my 6 year old trying hard to fool either her brother or sister into something. She's a character.
We just finished our latest radio show. We talked about freezer meal swaps & there are some good ideas for you to try. You can listen to the show right here on our home page, or go to www.blogtalkradio.com/freezersmarts. (You can also listen to last week's debut show if you want!) Thank you so much for listening. If you're a BTR member, and you like our show, mark it as a favorite and/or make me a friend - I would love it! And as always, please help spread the word to anyone you know who would be interested in listening or using our website.
I owe a big thanks to Joyce Pierce, from www.PrepareAndSucceed.com for joining us again. Also a thank you to www.trishberg.com for her tips on swapping meals. Trish is the author of, 'The Great American Supper Swap - Solving The Busy Woman's Dinnertime Dilemma." (I will post a link to purchase those books later today. I am off to a PR meeting & will be away from my phone & computer for a few hours).
Next week we're talking about Planning Your Pantry - it's going to be great! So be sure to tune in next Tuesday at 10am PST (or 1pm EST). Have a great day!

BTR, Classes & More
|
Hope you're having a great week. I am finally rested & recovered from my extra-full, super-fun Tuesday. We started with our first show on Blog Talk Radio (you can listen right here from our home page if you want...). And later that day I hosted my own freezer cooking group, where we assembled 70 meals right in my kitchen! (10 of us did a week's worth)
Next week on the radio show we're going to be talking about Freezer Meal Swaps. Have you ever organized one? Have tips or comments or other information to share? If so, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use the CONTACT US, or email me or - even better - call into the show next Tuesday and share with us!!
Also - if you have any requests for an easy meal we can assemble on the air, let me know. It should be something that is easy to make in quantity to take to a meal swap. Other than that - the sky's the limit. We can make anything we want. I'd like to have a recipe & ingredient list chosen by tomorrow so that we can post it this weekend. That gives everyone time to shop (or make sure you have the items on-hand) before the show.
Thanks for listening to the radio show AND for visiting the website!! We had a dozen listeners live, and have had about 20 of you listen to the archive. I appreciate your enthusiasm & support with our new adventures. You're great!

Blog Talk Radio Debut
|
We just finished our Blog Talk Radio show!! Anxiety...jitters....flubbing up the switchboard at the end!! Great fun! Seriously, I was nervous. But it went fine, and we'll just chalk the errors up to rookie mistakes. Next Tuesday will be better!! If you missed it, you can listen to the archive by just clicking the link here on the webpage. (BTR's website won't load for me right now, but I will get the archive up as soon as I can. The Washington Post ran a big story about them in today's paper, so their site is probably even busier than usual. Hooray for them!)
I promised recipes from the Pantry Challenge portion of the show, and here they are:
Ham Alfredo (12 servings)
1 lb bow tie pasta, cooked (you can start it right before starting the sauce)
10 frozen peas (or use half peas & half chopped broccoli)
4 Tbsp flour
2 cups milk
2 Tbsp butter or margarine
3 garlic cloves, minced
8 oz cream cheese
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese (divided)
3 cups cooked ham (about 1 lb), chopped or julienned
Blend flour & milk together in a jar by shaking until blended (make sure jar is sealed tight! lol). Heat butter in saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic & cook for 1 minute. Whisk in milk mixture. Simmer 3 minutes. Whisk in cream cheese & 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Simmer, whisking constantly for 3-5 minutes, until smooth & thickened. Remove from heat.
Toss sauce & pasta, peas & ham in a large bowl. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Toss again.
To freeze: Place in freezer bags & seal.
To serve: Defrost & heat in microwave or oven until heated through.
We'll get Joyce's recipe for roast & post it here, too. She also shared a tip for using leftover mashed potatoes. Did you know they can be used as a thickener for soups & other dishes? They'll give a nice, silky texture. Give it a try!
I'm off to tidy up my kitchen. I am hosting a freezer class at my house tonight. We're making Boy Scout Recipe Fajitas, Beef Stir Fry, Stuffed Bell Peppers, Spaghetti & Meatballs Bake, Chicken Noodle Soup, Chili and Lemon Garlic Chicken. YUM! I am hungry already! Have a terrific day!

Radio Show Debut!
|
I am so excited about our new radio show!! And with more than 1000 regular visitors to our website every month, I am hoping that many of you will be able to tune in. We will be on Blog Talk Radio on Tuesday at 10am PST/ 1pm EST. You can click the button on this page & go right to our show. I'll be taking your calls and questions - so I hope you'll be able to join us.
Each radio show will feature a new recipe that is so easy you can make it right along with us on the radio! That's right!! If you have the ingredients on hand, you can make the recipe with me & then either pop it in the freezer OR dinner will be ready to go for dinner that very night. How easy is that?? This week, you need to have enough pieces of chicken for your family, and a bottle of Italian salad dressing. If you are going to freeze this dish, be sure to have a gallon freezer bag ready, too.
Another feature is "Pantry Challenge." Have an ingredient in the fridge/freezer/pantry that you need to use? Need meal ideas for it? Email, call or use the chat feature to tell us about it & we'll see if we can help come up with something tasty for you.
My cohost & sponsor this week will be Joyce Pierce, owner of www.FamilyFirst.com & author of "All They'll Need To Know." She's an expert on preparedness and always has great ideas for families looking to improve their financial, emergency & spiritual planning.
If you can't listen live, don't fret. The archived show will be available for you to listen to on demand. They tell me I can even arrange for you to podcast it through iTunes! There's a lot going on this week, and I can't wait to chat with some of you Tuesday morning. Don't forget to email me with your Pantry Challenge suggestions!! (Or submit them through the chat - but if you email it so I have a head up I can do more research for you before the show. lol)

Happy Birthday!
|
It has been a whole year since the formal launch of FreezerSmarts! We've had a lot of fun getting the website up & running....getting recipes ready to share.....and meeting lots of you.
There are registered members from all over the United States, as well as Canada, Germany, France, Mexico, Australia & New Zealand. (Did I miss any??)
I'd like to send a big thank you to those of you who purchased recipes during the past year. You not only helped offset the costs of running the website, but also helped us learn more about how the site works, and helped us see how to organize the business to be the most helpful. THANK YOU!
Everything on the website it still public (meaning you don't have to sign in to access anything yet). That will be changing over this weekend as we get all the bits & pieces into their proper places. If you've already registered, you'll be getting an email that will remind you of your sign-in information as well as an announcement that the remodeled site is up & running.
If you haven't registered yet, please take a moment to do so! Your information is 100% safe with us. We don't share, rent, sell, lose, destroy....or anything else....with your info. It stays right here. But it helps us to know who's visiting & helps with persuading sponsors so we can keep the recipes free for you.
Glad you're here. All the new-and-improved features will be up & running by the end of this weekend. Happy birthday!

Wednesday
|
Happy January 2nd! And welcome to all our newly registered members!
As you probably figured out before I did, the sign-in isn't working properly. SO - no sign in is required to access the recipes. Go ahead and check them all out & don't worry about the registering or signing in. I will work on that this week, and I will email those of you who have registered to let you know when this kink is worked out.
The kids & I are travelling home today, so I will not be available online or by phone until tomorrow. My trip to the doctor yesterday revealed that my "cold" is acually the flu and bronchitis. So although I don't really feel like driving 400 miles on a 2 lane highway today, I DO feel like getting home to my own bed. And I also want to let my kind in-laws have their house back before school starts again on Monday. So please wish us a safe trip home (hopefully we will beat the snow!) and I will get to work bright & early in the morning.
Thanks for stopping by the website! I appreciate it! Joey

Sneak Peek
|
Welcome! Hope you're having a great New Year! We're revamping the website, but have enough in place that you can come in & use any of the resources that are ready...which as of this morning is only the recipes. BUT - they are free! Hooray! All you have to do is register as a member on the site, and then you'll have access to every recipe in the collection.
There are some great training resources coming soon, and some organizational helps for choosing menus & generating shopping lists. You'll be able to see them as soon as they are added - we don't have to totally close the website for any of the other changes we're working on.
I personally am ringing in the new year with bronchitis. So you probably won't see any new things added today (today's resolution is to make some herb tea, take some cold medicine & go back to bed! lol). But lots of cool resources are in the works & on their way, so check back again to see how it's coming.
Thanks so much for stopping by FreezerSmarts today. Have a great new year! Joey
